A concert in memory of John Edward Richard Searle (1922 – 2017), local pianist and Operetta Conductor and long-time friend of Egham Music Club.

Programme

Marilyn Hill Smith accompanied by Ian MacMillan present a selection of operatta gems from works by Johan Strauss, Franz Lehar, Sigmund Romberg, Ivor Novello and others.

Soprano Marilyn Hill Smith, enjoys a glittering career, having appeared as soloist with all of the major National Opera Companies including English National Opera & New Sadlers Wells Opera.Her numerous CD recordings, TV appearances, and singing on over 100 broadcasts on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night, has earned her the accolade,’ Britain’s Queen of Operetta’.

Baritone, Accompanist & PresenterIan McMillan, is a devotee and evangelist for Operetta since conducting Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas at school. He fulfilled his ambition to conduct Operetta professionally, and as Music Director with The Carl Rosa, London Savoyards, National Operetta & Welsh National Opera Companies, he has conducted over 1,000 performances worldwide. As Director of London Operetta, he also enjoys directing G&S Operettas from Scratch with ‘the audience as the chorus!’
